The Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity was formed by concerned lawyers to answer the call for diversity.  Our current challenge is to increase the recruitment, retention and promotion of lawyers of color, not only as good social policy, but also as good business practice.

THE MISSION:

The mission of the Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity is to unite the resources, energy and commitment of the State’s leading law firms, corporations, public sector entities, law schools and state bar associations in the joint mission of making Connecticut a more attractive place for attorneys of color and women to practice law and find satisfying  professional opportunities.

The Lawyers Collaborative for Diversity, Inc.

Proudly Announces Our

2008 Edwin Archer Randolph Diversity Award Recipient

The Honorable Alvin W. Thompson

Judge Thompson began his legal career as an associate at Robinson & Cole LLP. After becoming a partner in the firm in 1985, he was elected managing partner in 1991. This is particularly significant, as he became the first African-American managing partner of a major law firm in Connecticut. He served in this role until 1994 when he was appointed to the bench for the U.S. District Court for the District of Connecticut.

Judge Thompson's accomplishments demonstrate his commitment and dedication to the inclusion and advancement of attorneys of color and women in the legal community. Judge Thompson's commitment to attorneys of color and women have not only helped them further their own professional goals, but also motivated them to "pay it forward" by mentoring and participating in activities that further diversity efforts for others. Additionally, Judge Thompson served as co-chair of the ABA Committee on Business and Corporate Litigation Section's Diversity Committee from 1991-1995, and helped shape the Section's diversity policy, which serves as a model throughout the ABA today.

The Diversity Award Ceremony honoring Judge Thompson will be held on Wednesday, May 7, 2008, from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the Wadsworth Athenaeum. Mark your calendar. Invitations will be sent to you in the next few weeks. We look forward to having you join us as we celebrate Judge Thompson's many contributions to the State of Connecticut.
